TPO membranes are made with a co-polymerized rubber that allows them greater flexibility in cold climates. This membrane is best recognized for having the benefits of EPDM and PVC systems, at a more economical cost. TPO membranes are white and highly-reflective, making them an excellent choice for those looking to reduce energy costs. In addition to being ENERGY STAR rated, TPO’s recyclability makes it an environmentally conscious system. Additionally, TPO roofs are durable and resist dirt, bacteria and debris build-up making them highly resistant to tears, punctures and impact damage.
First installed in the early 1960’s, PVC was the industry’s answer to the oil crisis, as it was the first membrane to contain half of the fossil fuels normally used in system manufacturing. Engineers discovered that adding additional solid plasticizers to the PVC membrane allowed for additional weatherability and flexibility, where the membrane alone would be more susceptible to seasonal climate changes. To this day, PVC membranes remain incredibly versatile, chemical resistant and are highly recommended for roof-over projects. They are available in a variety of colors, thicknesses, widths, and reinforcements, making them an excellent option for almost any roofing project.
Along with the environmental benefit of using (fewer) fossil fuels in the manufacturing process, PVC is highly reflective/UV resistant, making the membrane an energy efficient option for warmer climates.
EPDM is an extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane that is used worldwide. EPDM is available in both black and white and is sold in a variety of widths and thicknesses. Its superior durability and cost-effectiveness are part of what makes EPDM one of the most popular flat roof systems installed in the U.S. today.
Along with preserving and extending the life of your roof, coatings can provide a highly reflective surface that may help reduce energy costs by lowering the surface temperature of the roof. Additionally, coatings provide a seamless application that conforms to irregular roof surfaces, as well as seals cracks and splits in the roof surface. Coatings can be applied to address a variety of roofing concerns. When choosing a coating, it is important to consider the location and current condition of the roof, as well as ponding water, chemical exposure, high heat and UV radiation.
Acrylic roof coatings cure to form a durable, continuous elastomeric membrane over the surface of your metal roof. Once applied, they form a seamless, watertight seal over the entire roof; including around vents, flashings and protrusions. Product is a self-flashing, lightweight acrylic roof coating that provides a continuous membrane while sealing seams and eliminating leaks. This coating is energy efficient and environmentally friendly, as well as being highly reflective and contains no VOCs. Durable with excellent weathering capabilities, this advanced liquid-applied system restores metal roofs and can eliminate minor metal roof problems.
Aluminum coatings can be applied to bitumen based roofs and certain metal roof applications. Bitumen based roofs can be re-saturated and copolymer coatings can be applied to single ply and metal
